Cleveland Cavaliers Media Day: Part One, Anderson Varejao Video

The 2011-12 NBA season has officially arrived.  After weeks of thinking maybe that would never happened, that’s how I felt walking around Cleveland Clinic Courts earlier today. There was a buzz of optimism in the air too, as the collection of new faces strolled into town alongside those old familiar ones, and it made me even more excited to kick this thing off for reals on December 26th.

Maybe the most familiar of those faces belongs to veteran big man Anderson Varejao, and below is some video I took of him talking about the upcoming 2011-12 campaign.

Austin Carr makes a cameo at the 3:29 mark, and that’s me chiming in at 4:51 too as a heads up:

I thought it was cool when Andy was talking about how he didn’t know how to speak English when he first arrived in Cleveland and Zydrunas Ilgauskas helped him make that transition. Sort of offers an illustration on what guys mean when they say Big Z was a good teammate too. As with that example, he did things like order guy’s salads for them and translated dinner menus to foreign languages he doesn’t even speak being from Lithuania if that’s what his teammates needed him to do.

It was also encouraging to hear the combination of adjectives Andy rattled off to describe his first impressions of Tristan Thompson too.  Said Andy of the 4th overall pick, “he’s athletic, he listens, he’s nice, and he has good moves.”  Works for me.

Starting tomorrow I’ll also be posting videos of my exchanges with Tristan Thompson himself, Ramon Sessions, Samardo Samuels, Manny Harris, and Christian Eyenga as well.  Oh and I have a video I took where Fox Analyst Ryan Hollins who dunked twenty times in an exhibition game this summer interviewed our guy Luke Harangody too.

So stay tuned.
