#12: Detroit Pistons
This was a difficult decision, but I ended up going with the Detroit Pistons finishing 12th in the Eastern Conference this year. With only a couple additions to last year’s team that finished 25-41, the Pistons will yet again be in the lottery. Ever since they traded Chauncey Billups the Pistons have not been able to work their way out of being a lottery team. This year will be no different.
Being in the Cavaliers Division, the match-ups between Cleveland and Detroit this year will be competitive this season. Both teams have a young talented core group of players that each franchise is trying to build around. The Pistons’ core group consists of Brandon Knight, Rodney Stuckey, Greg Monroe, and Andre Drummond. Although Drummond has not been able to prove himself yet in the NBA, I believe he will be a solid player.
According to ESPN, the Detroit Pistons starting lineup is:
PG: Brandon Knight
SG: Rodney Stuckey
SF: Tayshaun Prince
PF: Jonas Jerebko
C: Greg Monroe
The Pistons also have a few solid bench players in Corey Maggette, Charlie Villaneuva, and the aforementioned Drummond. This collection of starters and key reserves will give Detroit fans something to look forward to this year. I just don’t see them making the playoffs with how tough the Eastern Conference is at the moment.
Although they will be a very exciting team, they’re not getting out of the lottery. By adding Maggette and getting rid of Ben Gordon, the Pistons have freed up a lot of cap space for next summer – another reason to be bullish. Still one year away from any of that though. This season may not be the best for Detroit, but I believe they have a very bright future ahead.
