Zydrunas Ilgauskas Hired By Cavaliers As Special Assistant To The General Manager

The Cleveland Cavaliers announced today that the person who has played the most games ever as a member of the Cavs (771), grabbed the most rebounds (5,904), blocked the most shots (1,269), and committed the most fouls (2,591), is coming back home to be a member of the organization once again.

Zydrunas Ilguaskas will be joining the team’s front office as a Special Assistant to General Manager Chris Grant. Not to be confused with George Costanza’s role with the New York Yankees as The Special Assistant to the Traveling Secretary.

In all seriousness though, it is cool to have Big Z back in the fold here in Cleveland. Really starting to look forward to that night they raise his number eleven all the way up into the Quicken Loans Arena rafters forever. Below is an excerpt from the Cavaliers press release regarding the move:

The Cleveland Cavaliers today announced that Zydrunas Ilgauskas is joining the team’s front office as Special Assistant to the General Manager. The announcement was made today by Cavs General Manager Chris Grant. In his role as Special Assistant to the General Manager, Ilgauskas will be involved with front office responsibilities, including evaluation of amateur and professional prospects.

“We are very pleased to have Z begin the next phase of his basketball career with the Cavaliers and I am looking forward to working closely with him. Z has always had a great desire to learn and succeed and he already has a deep understanding and appreciation of the game and the NBA. We are extremely happy to welcome him back as part of our franchise,” said Grant.

Good stuff all around. Zydrunas Ilgauskas scored over 10,000 points as a player for the Cavaliers, and here’s hoping he can help Chris Grant build a team that sees Kyrie Irving score even more than he did in a Cavaliers uniform by the time he’s done.
