OPENING DAY ALMOST UPON US. HOW DO I GET CAVS ZINE 5?

Everything is technically hours away if you count the time in hours instead of larger increments.  Thus, just hours from now, the Cleveland Cavaliers will kick off what might be the best season in franchise history.

Mike Brenkus Cavs Zine-ed Out the Cover of Scene This Week

It’s hard to even conceptualize that, but it is true.  But you know what IS easy to conceptualize? Cavs Zine 5 is about to come out.   It’s an awesome story, one I’ve been telling a whole lot lately, but I started an old school punk rock style zine 5 years ago, got contributions from my favorite Cavs bloggers, artists that like Cleveland and the Cavs, put them together into something that was somehow even awesomer.  Sure it’s about Cleveland and basketball and the Cavs, but it’s also about community and sometimes tacos.

Like 350 people contributed over $7500 total so you could get this awesome zine for free.  Just go get one.  Or pay for postage for us to have our guys send them to you…

SO WHERE DO I GET CAVS ZINE 5 IMMEDIATELY WHEN IT ARRIVES?

1. IN OHIO CITY
The Jukebox Bar
1404 W 29th St, Cleveland, OH 44113

2.  IN TREMONT
The Loop
2180 W 11th St, Cleveland, OH 44113

3.  IN WILLOUGHBY
Mullarkey’s Irish Pub
4110 Erie St, Willoughby, OH 44094

WILL THERE BE OTHER PLACES I CAN GET IT?

Probably, but I’ll take the delivery then take them right to these places, plus I’m told you could get a pierogi at the Jukebox bar, some coffee at The Loop, and many beers at Mullarkey’s (who have carried Cavs Zine as long as it’s existed).

ARE YOU GOING TO HAND THEM OUT IN PERSON YOURSELF?

Yes.  For the November 10 home game against the Pelicans, I’ll be there handing them out in person and hopefully with a few other Cavs Zine people.

I’M A DONOR  OF THE CAVS ZINE KICKSTARTER, WHAT ABOUT MY COPIES AND MY CHAMPIONSHIP RING?

I’m going to mail them to you when we get them.

THERE’S NO WAY I CAN GET ONE IN PERSON, WHAT ABOUT ME?

We’re going to take a lot of copies to Chunksaah Records in Asbury Park, New Jersey and then you can go to their website and pay the shipping and handling and we’ll send you one.  I’ll get the link out onto the internet when it’s available.  Get some other stuff while you’re there.  Like I think you might be able to find the pre-order for Tim Barry’s new record that’s about to come out.

….

TELL ME MORE ABOUT CAVS ZINE.

Ok.  My main man Alex Raffalli, with whom I had been doing PodCavs podcast for since like midway through the 2010 season, just happened to be visiting Cleveland from France and he started helping me with zine work a couple years in, which made it possible to do even crazier stuff.   Mike Brenkus, who is an incredible graphic artist and also an insane Cavs fan worked with me to design the covers of the zine since the second issue, which have since served to kick off the work that we’ve done to compile and put together stuff from incredibly talented local writers, artists and thinkers.  We kept it “free for Cavs fans”, handed them out at games, and did mail order where readers only had to pay for shipping and handling costs.

So, you know, after several seasons of doing 300 copies of this zine, and really there being way more demand than supply, we did a Kickstarter, we are putting out 5000 copies in newsprint and keeping it free.  I highly recommend that you go and get one.  Because it’s awesome.

Just so you know, this issue features some of your favorite Cavs Zine writers like Scott Sargent from Waiting for New Year, Brendan Bowers, whom you know, Scott Raab from Esquire, and Ben Cox, who has written for every Cleveland sports blog.
